Hello, I’m a 19 years old student who has no clue what I’m going to do with my life. This “I Decided to Start” series is a compilation of my decision in life. This series will tell you about my decision to start doing something regularly, even if I didn’t know if it will suit me or not. It’s just the stories of my ‘choosing journey’ and my ‘why’.
This decision to start writing is also a part of this series. I basically have this confusion in my mind over every single decision that I made in a day. I just feel like I don’t want to waste every “choosing opportunity”, but at the same time, it’s giving me a headache. This actually happened after I learn the term “opportunity cost” I just don’t want to lose a better option over a not-so-good option for myself. That being said, I need somewhere to vent the story of my h̶e̶a̶d̶a̶c̶h̶e̶ decision.
I told my boyfriend about this. I wasn’t quite sure of my passion and what I’m going to do with my life.
At this point, he said:
“Look at what you’re doing now” and I replied
“What? being annoyed?” and he said,
“No, you’re talking, you’re telling a story”
“That’s your passion” he added.
And that’s when I realized I tend to explain myself a lot, like A LOT. This might be my way in life, right?
For the part where I choose writing over other story-telling channels, it’s actually because W̶r̶i̶t̶i̶n̶g̶’̶s̶ ̶n̶o̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶e̶a̶s̶y̶ ̶b̶u̶t̶ ̶G̶r̶a̶m̶m̶a̶r̶l̶y̶ ̶c̶a̶n̶ ̶h̶e̶l̶p̶. (I’m sorry, I can’t help it). Well, here’s why:
Firstly, There’s an increase in readers. I will not show data or statistics, but I know for sure that people around me are trying to at least finish a book. Some others are scrolling through Twitter on a daily basis. Some others read messages and everything the internet could offer. And that’s why, like it or not, they’re exposed to text.
Secondly, I feel like texts are much faster to be absorbed than speech. When I want to know what books are mentioned in Netflix’s “You” series. I’ll get the information faster by reading a list provided by Google than watching a 5–10 minutes video. I just need a minute to know something. That’s why, unless I want to hear a story, writing is a better way to gain information.
Last but not least, Writing and texts will not die, and they will never be replaced. At this point, you’ll probably think “Yeah, there’s podcast and Youtube vlog”. Well, sure you can talk all you want in a Youtube video or a podcast. You will be exposed to audio and visuals. But sometimes audio and visuals are not clear enough to explain something. You will always need a text to provide information. Plus to prepare those videos and podcasts, don’t you need a script? And how’s that made? writing right? Well, I’m just gonna assume you said yes.
Sooooo, yeah
Those are my reasons for today, I don’t really have a nice quote to wrap this. But anyway, this is an example of how the “I Decided to Start” series will look like. The text will be personal so I might get quite EmOtIonAL. But hey, I will show some data if i̶’̶m̶ ̶n̶o̶t̶ ̶l̶a̶z̶y̶ it’s necessary. I guess this is it for now. I hope this series will be useful for u somehow.
